At some stage in your pregnancy, hopefully at about 38-40 weeks, labour will commence. Rest assured no pregnancy goes on forever; it just seems like it for some women. During your visits with Dr Chang you will be provided with information about:
- Labour
- Induction of labour
- Pain relief during labour
- Birth- vaginal delivery, instrumental delivery and caesarean section
You are encouraged to discuss your birth plan and any concerns about labour and delivery with Dr Chang.
Your first point of contact when you go into labour, if your waters break or if you encounter any problems during pregnancy, such as bleeding or preterm labour, is the Women’s Unit at the Mater Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Hyde Park. They will assess the situation and advise you accordingly, they will then contact Dr Chang. It is easier for you to have one point of contact – the Women’s Unit.
Dr Chang feels pain relief in labour is very much a choice of the individual and is happy to accommodate your wishes. Anaesthetists from Townsville Critical Care Associates and Townsville Independent Anaesthetists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, should circumstances arise where their skills are required.
